A look at ourselves, Are we on the road to burn out.
The number of massages you do each day, can and will have a huge impact on you. Not only physically, but also emotionally and mentally.
Massage therapists need to remember that they are only limited by the ability of their own body. As mentioned above, massage therapy can be physically demanding. It is unhealthy to plan or schedule 8 full-hour massages in a given day. First, you hurt yourself. You’ll also end up too tired to give an adequate massage to the unfortunate 8th person who lands on your table that day. Spread out your sessions.
Diet, Stress and General Lifestyle.
Is it time to revaluate your own diet and life style? Are your stress levels higher than they need to be. What can you do to bring stress levels down. Are we avoiding more than we should or are we not avoiding enough of the bad stuff.
Friends and Family
Your friends and family could be causing you more problems than you think. Do you massage your friends and family at the drop of a hat? even if you’re absolutely shattered from working all day. Don’t feel obligated to give your friends and family a massage at the drop of a hat.
Body Mechanics and self care
Our body mechanics and posture are the primary reasons burn out. How many times have you finished a massage and thought to yourself, "I hurt". Hopefully not that often, but occasionally it’ll happen to even the best of us.
How often do you practice your stances? Should we be making more of an effort to practice stances during our pre-massage warm up?
How often do you stretch? Take some time to follow what our pets do naturally. Stretching is just as important for us as Massage Therapists as it is for a professional sports person.
Hand maintenance is probably well overlooked on the most part, How well are you looking after your hands, wrists and arms?
